About Romance Novels

It has occurred to me that reading/listening to romance novels is really not conducive to developing a realistic view of love.
But, oh how I love those happy endings! No matter what happens, you know there will be a happy ending, you know the hero and heroine will end up together, you know that all will be well in their world. It is addictive...
But it also makes you wonder, is a connection like that based on any kind of reality?

Some people say yes, some say no (but believe it is possible to find someone to be happy with), still others believe love is a temporary chemical reaction that inevitably fades in time. And I find myself wondering what the answer is...and hoping that it is closer to the romance novels...and doubting that it is...

On the one hand, I want to believe in fairytales, true love, soul mates, almost psychic connections, faeries, unicorns, Santa Claus, Mr. Right, and all that...

On the other hand, I am so afraid that by believing in all that, I am simply setting myself up for disappointment...

But I believe in things happening for a reason and working out for the best, I have seen that they do.
I believe in a higher power. How can you not when you see a sunset, FEEL a presence in your darker hours, see a garden in full bloom, give birth, feel love (of all kinds)...
And I even believe in Santa in an odd, very hard to explain kind of way.

So...why not believe in Love the way I always used to? Fear...fear keeps me from believing in it like that...because...what if I am wrong?
Am I willing to run the risk of never finding it (again) because I refuse to settle?

Am I willing to run the risk of settling because I was afraid to believe?

Nope.
Call me hopeless, call me naive, call me a complete fool...
I can't throw away my romantic notions. I can't stop believing in soul mates and true love.

It just goes against everything I am.

And if it turns out I am wrong...well...at least I can read about it all in an ever popular romance novel.
