I'm not sure why I've been neglecting myself.
I like myself well enough. And I am just vain enough to actually enjoy doing things just for me. But for some reason, for the last few years, and especially the last few months, I've been terrible about it.
And now, I am falling apart. I get sick way too much, my skin is awful, my hair is falling out, I sleep horribly, and my anemia is so bad I can barely function. This has got to stop!
If I expect to find someone one day who treats me with respect and like a Goddess, well I sure as hell better starting doing so for myself!
A woman's body really is a temple, and my poor temple needs from serious TLC.
Also, I have a little baby to chase around and play with...and if that isn't reason enough to be healthy, I don't know what is.
Time to take this seriously, and really take care of myself. Enough is enough.
I think this post and your Fresh Start post sort of go hand-in-hand. Maybe your Fresh Start starts off by taking better care of yourself. I can't tell you how much growing up I wish my mother would have taken better care of herself. She was always putting everybody before herself. Even still she is guilty of this and when you bring it up she just says, "I'm a Mom that's what I do." I'm sure people will be able to turn and point the finger back at me in a short time here so I have to get this in before its too late. My mom is the very best but seeing her sick, or weak or emotionally distressed because she didn't stop and take care of her was a really hard thing to swallow growing up. I'd even go as far to say that it makes you feel guilty as the kid because you know if you weren't there her burdens would be a lot lighter.
ReplyDeleteSo if you have to start small then fine. Do that. If it means taking a few minutes every morning or during baby naps- and literally forcing yourself to do this - taking your iron supplements, tinkering around in front of the mirror or polishing your toes - little things.
I do so love to have pretty toes!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it isn't easy for moms to focus on themselves, but it is oh so important. I'll take your advice, but you have to take the same advice once it applies ;)
