I've only had one or two occasions in my life where I actually felt beautiful. I do feel pretty sometimes, not lately so much, but in the past I have. And I often feel cute (well I used too, again, not so much lately). But beautiful? Rarely.
I have had people tell me I am beautiful here and there in my life. Though, I tend not to believe them. I am working on taking compliments with grace, but it isn't easy when you want to say "Um, are you blind or trying to butter me up for some reason?"
I've also had people say "You are really beautiful...on the inside" With that qualifier there, it really takes the warm fuzzy of the compliment away.
My father has never said I am beautiful. Not even on my wedding day (and that is one of the 2 occasions I actually felt beautiful) I think he has said I was pretty once or twice. But that is not the same thing. Of course, I wouldn't want him to lie, so it is better not said, right?
I just always thought that dads thought their little girls were beautiful, no matter what. Maybe not?
I do wonder why it is that some people get to be absolutely gorgeous, and others do not. It doesn't really seem fair. Then again, there is that saying about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. So maybe everyone is beautiful to someone. And maybe even those beautiful people don't always feel as gorgeous as they are...
Definitely something to ponder.
I may never be breathtaking, but I know I can look much better than I do now. And I am working towards looking and feeling the best I can.
But I may as well be honest - I really do wish I was beautiful...
But I have to wonder...is someone beautiful because someone else thinks they are? Or is a person beautiful because she feels beautiful and that just shines through?
I mean, you are not happy because someone else says "Hey! You're really happy!" You are happy because you feel happy. Of course, happiness is a feeling, and beauty is...well...what is beauty exactly?
"What is beauty exactly?" There you have it now don't you? I think it's something different to everyone really. What you see in others and perceive as beautiful, might not be the same thing that person does. You know?
ReplyDeleteMy own personal opinion which experience has confirmed for me over and over again... a great many of the 'social physical' qualifiers we give to people... beautiful, sexy etc, have very little to do with one PHYSICALLY and are entirely about attitude. But then again, these are just my two coppers.
Well...attitude I have! Haha! ;)
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, I do think you're right.
